Ana Aroche

Regional Director

As a Regional Director at Northstar, Ana helps develop, maintain, and service accounts at the firm. Prior to joining Northstar, Ana exclusively covered the Northstar relationship as a Key Account Manager for Midwood Financial Services Inc., a provider of wholesaling and marketing services in the financial services industry. Ana comes from a banking and brokerage background having worked in the greater Miami area dealing with domestic and international clients who make South Florida their banking and investment hub. Ana’s experience with international clients includes over 10 years at Wachovia Bank and Wachovia Securities, a Wells Fargo Company. After her tenure at Wachovia she helped establish a Registered Investment Advisory Firm before taking a sabbatical to start a family. When it was time to re-join the work force and continue her career in the Financial Services Industry, Ana found the perfect opportunity to use her experience with international clients and the advisors who cover them with Northstar.

Tamara Cain

Senior Vice President, Global Head of Key Accounts

Tamara has over 20 years’ experience in the financial services industry and is responsible for determining the strategic marketing, product and brand strategies for Northstar. Tamara is also responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with key distributors and their financial advisors. Prior to joining Northstar, Tamara worked for JPMorgan Chase Insurance Group (formerly Banc One Insurance Agency) initially as the Lead Project Manager responsible for the development of the back office functions for the annuity line of business. She was then promoted to the position of Vice President where she led strategic initiatives regarding merger integration, regulatory audits, process and technology enhancements, as well as managing the relationships of third party annuity providers. During her fourteen year tenure at JP Morgan Chase, she led various process improvement initiatives and efforts to implement best practices with respect to annuity sales, suitability and service.

Sanjeev Chowdhury

Vice President, Regional Director (Principal Representative - Middle East and Africa)

Sanjeev has more than a decade of business development, marketing, relationship and sales management experience in the financial services industry throughout the Middle East, Africa and Indian Subcontinent. Prior to joining Northstar, Sanjeev was the Regional Vice President for Sun Life International (Bermuda) based out of the Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC) where his main focus was managing and growing business relationships with strategic partners across the region. He was also responsible for implementing marketing strategies on behalf of the company. Prior to joining Sun Life, Sanjeev was Unit Head, Priority Banking for Standard Chartered Bank in Dubai. He has also worked for ABN AMRO Bank as a Senior Relationship Manager for Van Gough Preferred Banking where he was responsible for managing ultra high net worth client relationships. Sanjeev gained his Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) from St. Xavier’s College, Calcutta University and is fluent in English, Hindi, Urdu, and Bengali and has a working knowledge of Punjabi.

Juan Delgado

Vice President, Regional Director

Juan started his financial services career in Sun Life Financial’s International Division in 2012. He began his tenure with a position as a Sales Support Associate for the North & South American regions and was soon offered a position as an Internal Wholesaler directly supporting the Southeast US region. His contribution in this role helped the territory to achieve record production levels and greater brand awareness. He was subsequently promoted to Sales Desk Manager and was responsible for training and supervising the Internal Wholesaler team and he also worked directly with the Head of Distribution on overall strategy and analysis. Shortly thereafter, he was given a new role as Associate Director. Juan completed a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and Comparative Governments and in Journalism from the University of Central Florida. He currently attends Boston University’s Financial Planning Program and expects to receive his CFP certification shortly. Juan is bilingual in English and Spanish, with a working knowledge of Portuguese.

Edward Horner

Chief Marketing Officer

Edward has over 15 years’ experience in the financial services industry. He cofounded Eden Rock Capital Management in 2001 and in his role as Managing Director played an integral role in helping to grow the firm into a multi-award winning company with in excess of $3 billion in allocated assets. Prior to this, Edward worked as a Financial Consultant at Merrill Lynch International Bank Ltd. where he was a Partner of the largest team in the International Private Client Group advising clients with assets in excess of $2 billion on both traditional and alternative asset classes. Edward began his career working on the London International Financial Futures Exchange for Alpha Financial Futures Ltd followed by Inter Market Futures Ltd and is a graduate of Newcastle University with BA (Hons).

Christopher Mattera

Chief Operating Officer

Chris oversees Northstar’s operational processes and technology infrastructure. Chris has over 26 years’ of experience in designing, developing and managing products and operations in the life and annuity industry. Prior to joining Northstar, Chris was Vice President of JP Morgan Chase Insurance Group, where he was responsible for Business Development. During his six year tenure there, he designed, developed and managed the firm’s proprietary annuity program and managed the operational and product relationships with third party annuity providers. He also managed product development for new bank insurance programs. Prior to JP Morgan Chase, he worked for five years at New York Life Insurance Company developing new annuity products and operations and for five years at First Investors Life Insurance Company where he managed fixed and variable annuity operations. Chris is a Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI). He received his BS in Business Administration from St. John’s University.

Alejandro Moreno

Senior Vice President, Global Head of Distribution

Alejandro started his financial services career at Putnam Investments in 1996. During his tenure at Putnam, he held positions in 401K customer service, project management and as AVP for its offshore business. Alejandro’s expertise in the Americas offshore market let him to become Putnam’s relationship and sales representative and in addition he worked with distributors on the sales and marketing of offshore funds. In 2008, Alejandro joined Sun Life Financial International as Key Account Executive for the Americas. In this role Alejandro expanded Sun Life’s presence in major distributors of offshore solutions in the Americas and in 2010 Alejandro started to manage both the Key Account and Sales Team for the Americas. In 2013 Alejandro was promoted to Head of Global Relationships expanding his responsibilities to include the Middle East and Asia. Alejandro completed his undergraduate program at CENP in Madrid. He holds FINRA licenses 6, 7, and 63, and received a Financial Planning certificate from Boston University’s continuing education program. Alejandro is bilingual in English and Spanish and has a working knowledge of French and Italian.

Lisa Smart

Vice President, Operations Manager

Lisa has 25 years’ of experience working in the insurance industry specialising in implementation, inquiry management and problem resolution. At Northstar she is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations to ensure accurate processing and operational integrity of new business, fund trading, financial and non-financial transactions for all products and TPAs. Lisa is also responsible for all aspects of administration and call centre support for the Universal Life products and management of related Distributor and Trust relationships. In addition, Lisa manages the day to day operational relationships with our Variable Fund Managers, the Trustee of the NFSB Master Trust and TPA Vendors. Prior to joining Northstar she worked for Marsh Bermuda as Supervisor of Life Operations for the Northstar business. Lisa earned The Bermuda Insurance Diploma at the Bermuda Insurance Institute.

Michael Staveley

Chief Executive Officer

Michael has over 25 years’ experience in the financial markets and has managed a variety of businesses involving the trading and structuring of credit risk. Michael  joined Eden Rock Capital Management in 2006 as Chief Investment Officer. Prior to Eden Rock he spent five years at Commerzbank where he was global head of credit markets. He previously spent three years at General Re Financial Products as Managing Director and global head of credit trading. Michael also spent six years with SBC Warburg in London and New York where he was global head of structured credit trading and four years at Citicorp in fixed income derivatives. He has an MA in Engineering and a BA in Mathematics from Trinity College Dublin.

Lynn Superina

Senior Vice President, Financial Controller

Lynn is responsible for the day to day financial management of certain companies within Northstar Financial Services Ltd group. Prior to joining Northstar she completed her Chartered Accountant mentorship working for Grant Thornton in the Johannesburg office. Subsequently, Lynn served at Marsh Management Services Bermuda Ltd., where she provided accounting and related captive insurance/advisory services to large international entities. She received her Bachelor of Commerce – Honors in Accounting Sciences as well as a Certificate Theory in Accounting from the University of Johannesburg. Lynn is also a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants, is a Registered Associate in Risk Management as well as being a Fellow of the Life Management Institute.

Ben Wacker

Chief Actuary

Ben has over ten years’ experience in the life/annuity insurance and reinsurance industries.  Ben is responsible for valuation and product pricing as well as capital and reinsurance transactions. Prior to joining Northstar, he served as Director of Financial Reporting at Athene Life Reinsurance in Hamilton, Bermuda, where he managed a team responsible for monthly GAAP and STAT financial reporting for fixed and indexed annuity products.  He also led a team responsible for risk metric reporting related to model updates, analysis of results, and presentation to management and the board of directors.  Prior to that, he was Assistant Vice President at Ability Reinsurance, also in Bermuda.  Ben started his career at Principal Financial Group in Iowa, after receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin.  He is a Fellow of The Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
